About The Position

The Control Booth Operator is responsible for maintaining the security and operational flow of the facility. This role involves monitoring electronic logs, resident counts, and security systems, as well as controlling access to the facility. The operator must be professional, courteous, and adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Over twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Current Texas Driver's License.
  • Current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (reading, writing, and understanding) in English.
  • Able to submit to a drug urinalysis pre-screening exam.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check cleared through the Texas Juvenile Justice Department requirements.
  • Able to pass a background check with the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule to meet facility needs, including double shifts (16+ hours), weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to reason and make judgments and decisions.
  • Ability to maintain resident and facility confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage time well and multitask.
  • Ability to submit written documentation clearly, accurately, and impartially.
  • Ability to properly file all control paperwork prior to leaving shift.
  • Ability to perform effectively and courteously in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental clientele, representatives of outside agencies, other county employees and officials, representatives of the juvenile justice system, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Facility main entry electronic log utilizing the Guardian On Demand System, including resident status, assigned staff, facility entry and exiting, and operational information.
  • Maintain accountability of all residents and equipment, ensuring a safe, clean, and secure environment.
  • Conduct hourly headcounts of residents utilizing the Guardian On Demand System.
  • Answer all facility phone calls professionally and courteously.
  • Control the security of the facility by keeping magnetic and locked doors secured at all times, only opening them for recognized Staff or Chain of Command personnel.
  • Coordinate resident movements and needs based on the facility program schedule.
  • Facilitate coordination with support and service agencies such as Tropical Texas, medical services, fire safety services, and local law enforcement.
  • Monitor security and fire alarm systems, including closed circuit monitors.
  • Maintain communication with other staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Check schedules for changes and advise staff of pertinent information.
  • Maintain handwritten logs, including visitation, resident releases and detentions, transports, equipment issued, grievances, medical isolation, and resident observation logs.
  • Adhere to and comply with professional conduct and ethical behavior consistent with standards and policies of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), TJJD, Cameron County, and CCJJD.
  • Adhere to and comply with all PREA standards, following zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
  • Adhere to and comply with all TJJD standards, including Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) standards, and cooperate with ANE investigations.
  • Adhere to and comply with all CCJJD's and Cameron County's policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to CCJJD's Personnel Manual.
  • Abide by all federal, state, and local laws, acting as a good role model.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Follow assigned monthly schedule unless proper arrangements have been made.
  • Perform duties specific to shift as determined by the Facility Administrator, Operations Manager.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer and/or designee.
