About The Position

We are seeking an entry-level Contracts Specialist to support our Contracts department. This position is designed for a recent law school graduate interested in applying their legal education to construction contracts, contract administration, and risk management. Working under the direction of the Contracts Manager, the Contracts Specialist will assist with reviewing and preparing agreements, identifying contractual concerns, and coordinating documentation throughout the contract lifecycle. This role offers hands-on experience with construction operations and opportunities to develop contract review and negotiation skills.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Foundational understanding of contract law and the ability to analyze contractual language.
  • Strong research, writing, proofreading, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate, organized records.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, including document comparison and tracked changes.
  • Willingness to learn construction operations, insurance requirements, and company contracting procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, internships, clerkships, or other experience involving contracts, construction law, business law, or insurance.
  • Exposure to drafting, reviewing, or redlining agreements.
  • Familiarity with the construction industry or an interest in marine, piling, and civil construction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with reviewing, drafting, and redlining client contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, amendments, change orders, and other agreements using company templates and established contracting guidelines.
  • Identify provisions requiring further review, including indemnification, insurance, payment terms, scope of work, schedule obligations, termination, and dispute resolution.
  • Prepare contract summaries and proposed revisions for review by the Contracts Manager and assist with negotiations under their direction.
  • Research contractual questions and applicable legal requirements as assigned, summarize findings, and refer concerns to the Contracts Manager or counsel.
  • Prepare and distribute subcontracts, releases, change orders, and related documents; track signatures and maintain complete electronic files.
  • Support contracts from initial review through execution and closeout, including tracking outstanding documents, deadlines, amendments, and renewals.
  • Review contract insurance requirements and assist with coordinating certificates of insurance and supporting documentation with corporate risk management, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Coordinate company and subcontractor prequalification documents, gather information from internal departments, and track completion and approval.
  • Communicate with project teams, Accounting, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain information and resolve routine documentation issues.
  • Assist with gathering records and preparing summaries related to contractual questions, claims, or disputes for review by the Contracts Manager or counsel.
  • Help maintain contract templates, tracking systems, procedures, and training materials.
  • Perform other duties and special projects in support of the Contracts department.
