Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor Degree required
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Ability to negotiate legal and commercial issues arising from contracts
  • Problem solving skills together with the confidence to take the initiative on projects
  • Strong communication skills and attention-to-detail are essential

Nice To Haves

  • Transactional experience or construction/surety law experience is preferred, but not necessary

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and negotiate project contracts, subcontractor agreements, subcontractor services agreements, purchase orders, quality acceptance agreements, etc.
  • Review owner contracts.
  • Draft and articulate argument/positions on owner contracts.
  • Negotiate owner change orders and claims for extra work.
  • Develop change management controls.
  • Review and prepare change orders for execution.
  • Aid in preparation of revenue forecasts.
  • Review and respond to third-party claims, including letter writing and negotiations.
  • Prepare formal release of settlement documents.
  • Review and respond to claims from subcontractors and suppliers, including letter writing and negotiations.
  • Develop contractual provisions regarding sub/supplier change orders or backcharges.
  • Coordinate the purchase/renewal of insurance policies on the project.
  • Pursue or aid in pursuing insurance claims on the projects.
  • Aid and review compliance-related matters, e.g., DBE participation, certified payrolls and buy America.
  • Review owner contracts in preparation of upcoming bids.
  • Perform legal research across projects in the region as needed: prompt pay acts, construction specific legal issues, environmental law, etc.
  • Establish and administer document control procedures.
  • Work with Operations team on a daily basis on risk management, and contractual and commercial issues.
