About The Position

The Functional AI Lead for Contracts and Procurement (Supply Chain) is responsible for embedding AI capabilities directly within the function to enable practical, scalable solutions that enhance how work is executed and delivered across projects. Operating within a federated AI model, this role brings AI development closer to the work by leveraging deep subject-matter expertise, functional context, and operational insight. The role translates business priorities into actionable AI use cases, develops and pilots solutions using approved platforms, and drives adoption across projects, regions, and teams. The Functional AI Lead works closely with the central AI Program Team to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and to transition successful pilots into production. This is a hands-on role requiring a balance of domain expertise and applied AI capability to deliver measurable improvements in productivity, quality, cost, and delivery outcomes. This position is designated as part-time telework per the global telework policy and requires a minimum of three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly schedules will be coordinated with the supervisor and functional or project leadership. #LI-VB1

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10–13 years of experience in Contracts and Procurement / Supply Chain within EPC, PMC, or infrastructure projects
  • Deep understanding of Bechtel’s project execution approach and supply chain processes
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-stakeholder project environments
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into structured, implementable solutions
  • Experience in AI, data analytics, or digital transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with AI and automation tools (e.g., Copilot, Databricks, analytics platforms)
  • Proven ability to develop or pilot new tools, processes, or innovations
  • Strong functional expertise in Contracts and Procurement / Supply Chain
  • Understanding of data structures, workflows, and digital systems supporting the function
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Practical, delivery-focused mindset with ability to operate in fast-paced, iterative environments
  • Experience working across functions, regions, and global teams
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to influence without formal authority

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the AI strategy for Contracts and Procurement / Supply Chain, aligned with business line and project priorities
  • Translate business drivers (cost, schedule, risk, productivity) into prioritized AI use cases
  • Develop and manage a functional AI backlog of initiatives
  • Provide subject-matter leadership across one or more of the following areas: Supply Chain Integrated Work Process and Procedure (IWPP), Procurement (buying, expediting, materials management, site logistics), Contracts and Subcontracts (formation, administration, closeout), Digital Supply Chain systems
  • Design, build, and test pilot AI solutions and agents using approved no-code / low-code platforms (e.g., Copilot Studio, Databricks)
  • Rapidly iterate solutions based on user feedback and operational performance
  • Define clear scope, success criteria, and measurable objectives for each pilot
  • Validate solutions in live project environments
  • Capture lessons learned and refine solutions to maximize value
  • Participate in training and capability development provided by the AI Program Team
  • Drive adoption of AI solutions across projects, regions, and delivery teams
  • Act as the functional AI champion, building awareness, capability, and engagement
  • Enable integration of AI into day-to-day workflows and practices
  • Support training, onboarding, and change management initiatives
  • Serve as the primary interface between the function and the AI Program Team
  • Align functional initiatives with enterprise AI governance, standards, and architecture
  • Support transition of successful pilots into production deployment
  • Collaborate on scaling strategies and enterprise integration
  • Define, track, and report value metrics (e.g., time savings, cost reduction, risk mitigation)
  • Monitor performance and effectiveness of deployed AI solutions
  • Support development of business cases for scaling successful initiatives
  • Ensure value realization is clearly demonstrated and communicated to stakeholders
  • Ensure AI solutions comply with company policies, data governance, and control requirements
  • Identify and manage risks associated with AI deployment in contracts and procurement activities
  • Maintain alignment with ethical, legal, and commercial standards
  • Develop and maintain expertise in AI platforms and tools used within the function
  • Guide selection and adoption of tools aligned with business needs and enterprise standards
  • Act as an informed intermediary between functional teams, external vendors/COTS providers, and the AI Program Team
