About The Position

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) at the University of Miami has an opportunity for a Contracts and Grants Officer 2. This role involves negotiating research contracts in compliance with sponsoring agency requirements and University policies. The position provides institutional-level sponsored research administration services to academic departments and research units across all University campuses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in contracting.
  • Knowledge of University and Federal agency requirements (NIH, DOD, NSF, NASA, DOE, Uniform Guidance, Export Control Regulations, Federal Acquisition Regulations).
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated professional experience and judgment to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting the University's best interests.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, customer service, collegiality, or ethics.
  • Strong analytical contract and negotiation skills.

  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential.
  • Sponsored research experience.
  • Unfunded research (CDAs, MTAs, DTUAs, unfunded collaborations, etc.) experience.
  • Outbound subaward agreement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts, reviews, analyzes, and negotiates terms and conditions for various research contracts in accordance with University guidelines.
  • Provides guidance, support, and advice to faculty and staff on sponsored research administration, interpreting policies, regulations, and contract terms.
  • Collaborates with other University units (IRB, Risk Management, Technology Transfer, Export Control, General Counsel, etc.) to ensure efficient and effective management of sponsored research projects.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Stays updated on regulatory changes relevant to the contracts portfolio.
