About The Position

Courier Newsroom is seeking a Contract Reporter (Independent Consultant) for its New Hampshire newsroom, The Granite Post. This fully remote, contract role is based in New Hampshire and will report into the Underwriting & Sponsored Content department. The consultant will be responsible for producing two original, fact-based political story packages per week, focusing on New Hampshire politics and policy. These packages should connect state and local policy decisions to the real lives of New Hampshire residents and advance Courier's pro-democracy coverage goals. The contract is expected to last through February 28, 2027. A "package" includes one source-driven article and one related presenter-led video made using a provided template. Responsibilities include refining angles, incorporating feedback, ensuring adherence to journalistic standards, conducting research, interviews, fact-checking, and outreach to community members, experts, and political actors.

Requirements

  • Lives in New Hampshire
  • 3+ years of reporting experience in journalism, with a focus on politics, policy, or public affairs (state and local experience strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently report, write, and file multiple stories per week on deadline
  • Strong reporting and writing skills, including sourcing, interviewing, research, and fact-checking, with a commitment to COURIER’s journalistic standards and style
  • Deep familiarity with New Hampshire politics, institutions, and key issues
  • On-camera experience with social media videos, and an aptitude for creating them
  • Alignment with COURIER’s mission to provide fact-based, people-centered reporting that strengthens civic participation and democracy

  • Experience working with campaign-style content is a plus.
