About The Position

KLDiscovery, one of the largest national eDiscovery providers, is seeking New York licensed attorneys to assist with litigation support for Article 81 guardianship cases. Qualified candidates will help ensure guardianship providers comply with statutory and contractual requirements, reduce delays in case discharge, and participate in protecting vulnerable adults. The role includes reviewing court filings, monitoring program performance, identifying compliance issues, and appearing in state court on behalf of the agency. This role is a contract-based position and offers competitive hourly compensation. The duration of the project is expected to be six months. This role is on-site and will require commuting to and from civil courts in New York City.

Requirements

  • Required: Active New York State attorney’s license, in good standing.
  • Strong collaboration skills and be comfortable working independently
  • Must be a motivated self-starter
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to retain complex work direction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Ability to work on-site in New York City

Nice To Haves

  • Prior state litigation experience is helpful but not required – a motivated attorney willing to learn will be considered
  • Interest in guardianship law, protective services, or public-sector legal work is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review court documents related to Article 81 guardianship cases including: Orders t o Show Cause, final accounting, Ex parte orders, proof of compliance, and order settling final accounts.
  • Track whether guardians are timely filing for discharge and closing cases in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Identify cases where discharge has been delayed due to guardian inactivity and flag them for follow‑up.
  • Monitor guardian program performance and compliance with contracts and guardianship statutes.
  • Communicate regarding missing, incomplete, or overdue filings.
  • Identify patterns or systemic issues contributing to discharge delays.
  • Assist in significantly reducing the number of cases eligible for discharge and closure.
  • Appear in New York State courts as needed.
  • Provide additional litigation support for matters if required.
