Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project control, project accounting, financial analysis, or a similar role, ideally in the engineering, construction, consulting, or professional services sector.
  • Solid understanding of project financial management, including revenue recognition, work in progress (WIP), profitability analysis, forecasting, and project accounting.
  • Excellent financial analysis skills and the ability to transform financial data into clear findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with project managers, advise them, and constructively challenge certain practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with Finance, operations, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • High level of rigor, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and files simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Proficiency in English is essential due to shared services and to maintain an acceptable ratio among certain position holders to ensure effective coordination and service delivery within the organization.
  • Excellent command of Excel (advanced level).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Experience with SuiteProjects Pro / NetSuite.
  • Good command of Microsoft 365.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure financial performance monitoring of a portfolio of engineering projects and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Act as a financial partner to project managers by providing analyses and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Lead periodic financial reviews with project managers focusing on work in progress (WIP), revenue recognition, profitability, forecasts, and risks.
  • Analyze project performance against budgets, forecasts, and progress to identify trends, variances, and potential issues.
  • Proactively identify at-risk projects and work with project managers on appropriate actions concerning, in particular, additional fees, change orders, and overruns.
  • Support and challenge project managers in understanding financial indicators and improving the financial management of their projects.
  • Collaborate closely with billing teams to promote fair and timely billing.
  • Contribute to the preparation of performance reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), forecasts, and quarterly presentations for management.
  • Ensure the updating of billable rates and other project financial data in accordance with contracts and applicable requirements.
  • Participate in month-end closing activities, accounting analyses related to projects, and the preparation of documentation required for external audits.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of project control methods, financial processes, and management tools.
  • Contribute to the stabilization and continuous improvement of our ERP and project management systems following their implementation.
  • Participate in the development of best practices and the improvement of financial knowledge of project managers within the organization.
