About The Position

The Continuous Miner Operator operates self-propelled mining machines that rip coal, metal and nonmetal ores, rock, stone, or sand from the mine face and load it onto conveyors or into shuttle cars in a continuous operation. Operates mining machines to gather coal and convey it to floors or shuttle cars.

Requirements

High School or equivalent.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses repair and maintenance.
Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure the machine is working properly.
Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Ability to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, show the necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the main responsibilities as summarized and defined.

Responsibilities

Conducts pre-operational visual, physical and operational checks on the machine.
Hangs ventilation tubing and ventilation curtains to ensure that the mining face area is kept properly ventilated.
Administers methane gas checks to ensure breathing quality of air.
Examines the stability of roof and rib support systems before mining face areas.
Transport miners to and from working face areas safely and efficiently.
Complies with state and federal health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures and the company's environmental compliance policy.
