About The Position

The Continuous Improvement Intern supports the organization’s commitment to operational excellence and efficiency by collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, analyze, and implement process improvements across departments. The internship is part of Blount’s Spring Semester Internship Program, which provides experiential learning, connects classroom concepts with real-world applications, and supports students’ professional readiness. Interns can expect timely feedback, accessible supervisors, bi-weekly meetings with the internship program lead, career-readiness assistance, and networking opportunities. The pay range is $19.00 to $20.00 per hour.

Requirements

• Be a degree (B.A.) candidate from a college or university, have related experience, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Communicate effectively in written and spoken English as it pertains to the position.
• Perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; and draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Have knowledge of Microsoft Office software and competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Work with the CI Engineer to plan, coordinate, control, and analyze continuous improvement projects, including net weight and downtime analysis.
• Provide current-state data and proposals for continuous improvement.
• Provide ongoing data on selected production processes.
• Support process improvement initiatives, including process experimentation, design, optimization, control, definition, and documentation, to reduce waste and achieve continuous improvement.
• Support manufacturing initiatives to improve safety, reduce cycle times, improve productivity, create and find capacity, improve process reliability, and improve customer satisfaction with respect to on-time delivery, yields, and quality.
• Perform other responsibilities with similar skills, work conditions, and responsibilities as assigned.
