About The Position

Tyler Junior College is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated individual to serve as a part-time instructor and curriculum developer for Psychiatric Technician. This position provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction aligned with industry standards. This role is responsible for helping to develop, implement, and deliver classroom and hands-on training for students preparing to enter employment in healthcare settings. Continuing Education Instructors are subject to an 18-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or Nursing licensure
  • Three years of non-teaching work experience in the field
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse, Registered Nurse, Physician, Physician Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or Psychiatric Technician
  • Mastery of course content
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and connect with adult learners
  • Must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record (if travel is required)
  • Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of each employee.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions and duties of the job as described above, including essential tasks requiring specific physical demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience in instructional design and curriculum development
  • Previous teaching experience in continuing education, adult education, or vocational training settings

Responsibilities

  • Meeting all scheduled classes for the full class period.
  • Following the prescribed master course syllabi and adopted textbooks.
  • Preparing instructional materials and keeping them current to make the best possible use of each class period.
  • Informing students of student learning outcomes, class procedures, and grading policies at the beginning of each course.
  • Enhancing the instructional/learning process by emphasizing effective course organization and planning, faculty/student interaction, communication, level of course difficulty and workload, appropriate textbooks and readings, and tests and examinations.
  • Keeping accurate records of students’ attendance and grades as required.
  • Motivating students with a professional, responsive, and cordial attitude to perform at their highest level.
  • Maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and propriety conducive to learning in the classroom.
  • Utilizing talents, academic background, and strong personal qualities to serve the best interests of students and Tyler Junior College.
  • Assisting with any necessary certification or approval of courses as required by the course-related credentialing agency, if applicable.
  • Supervises clinical laboratory learning experiences during assigned clinical rotations.
  • Creates engaging lessons that encourage student participation and practical application; maintains up-to-date knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Interacts with clinical partners to promote student experience and education.
  • Travel to clinical sites to observe students at externships.
