About The Position

HumanAbility is a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, aged care and disability, sport & recreation and early childhood industries. HumanAbility’s objective is to advance education by supporting skills and workforce development for the above specified industries. It is a values-based organisation, that is not-for-profit, industry-owned and led, that is contracted by the federal government. We have an opportunity for a Content Specialist to join us on a full-time basis in an ongoing capacity subject to funding (currently funded until mid-2028). The role may be located anywhere in Australia and will involve travel with overnight stays for organisation meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops and industry events. The Content Specialist creates compelling visual content that brings HumanAbility’s work to life for diverse audiences — from industry stakeholders and training providers to government partners and the broader public. Working within the Communications team, you will plan, shoot, edit and publish photographic and video content across HumanAbility’s digital channels and social media platforms. You will also support event coverage, stakeholder stories and campaign assets, ensuring every piece of content reflects HumanAbility’s brand, tone and strategic priorities. This is a hands-on creative role with a strong production focus. You will manage projects from concept through to delivery, often working to tight turnarounds and balancing multiple briefs at once.

  • Demonstrated experience producing professional photography and video content for digital channels
  • Strong technical skills in camera operation, lighting, audio capture and post-production editing, preferably using the Adobe suite
  • Ability to tell clear, engaging stories through visual content — with a portfolio that shows range across formats and platforms
  • Experience optimising content for different social media platforms and understanding of platform-specific best practice
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a small team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to put people at ease on camera and work collaboratively with subject-matter experts and stakeholders
  • Understanding of digital accessibility requirements for visual content, including captioning and alt text
  • Experience using content management systems and social media management tools

Nice To Haves

  • Skills in motion graphics or animation are desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in film, media production, communications or journalism and related fields are desirable

Responsibilities

  • Plan, shoot and edit high-quality photography and video for use across web, social media, email and print channels
  • Produce content including short-form social video, long-form interviews and event highlights, explainer and promotional videos, and photographic assets
  • Manage pre-production tasks including scripting, storyboarding, talent coordination, location scouting and scheduling
  • Operate and maintain camera, lighting, audio and editing equipment
  • Support work across the Communications team as required
  • Observe and follow work health, safety and wellbeing policies and guidelines

Benefits

  • We operate a hybrid working model. While flexibility is supported, the balance of office-based work, in-person attendance at meetings, events, etc and remote work will vary depending on role, location, and business needs.
