About The Position

The Content Specialist is a part-time position at the COMPASS program that will select and manage program content in the required content areas. The Content Specialist will oversee and support program staff through observations, Coaching, training, and professional development to ensure program quality. They will support the afterschool and summer camp Activity Specialist and group leaders to ensure they create age-appropriate, weekly activity plans, and resources that align with the Social Emotional Learning, STEM, Reading, and Math curriculum that is utilized by the school where the COMPASS program is based. The Content Specialist will ensure all activities are fun, inclusive, and designed to foster creativity, leadership, and learning for youth grades K-5.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or equivalent required
  • Must be a NYC School Teacher working with children during the school year.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in HSVS, DYCD, trainings and professional development and completes 30 hours of required OCFS trainings
  • Maintain a binder and/or online SharePoint of all activity plans, and resources.
  • Assists in ordering, maintaining, and keeping inventory of after-school supplies.
  • Develop weekly, monthly activity plans aligned with the program theme, and school SEL, STEM, Math and Literacy/Reading Curricula.
  • Support Activity Specialist and Group leaders with creating engaging and hands-on activity plans.
  • Ensure bulletin boards reflect activities and themes being implemented in the after school and summer camp program and is updated each month.
  • Provide training and coaching to the Activity Specialist and Group leaders on lesson\activity delivery and implementation.
  • Offer real-time support to staff during program hours and assist with classroom set-up and activities as needed.
  • Provide office hours and at least three hours of preparation time to all Activity Specialist and Group Leaders to complete activity\lesson plans.
  • Assist the Program Director and Assistant Director with planning special events, trips, showcases and themes throughout the year.
  • Observe activities\classes to ensure proper implementation and provide feedback to Activity Specialist and Group Leaders.
  • Accompanies youth on cultural and recreational field trips.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
