About The Position

Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests, each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. The love of Christ, evidenced in our Water Street community, is the real impetus for change with our guests. Summary : As part of the Marketing team at Water Street, the Marketing and Public Relations Specialist uses their verbal and visual storytelling skills to help communicate Water Street’s compelling messages of transformational programs and people to our Lancaster County community. The Marketing team manages the public image of Water Street Mission (WSM), ensuring that all communication is consistent with our purpose, mission, and voice, and effectively invites people to partner with WSM through their time, treasure, and talent. The Marketing team invites individuals and organizations to partner with WSM through large-scale print and digital media production, coordinating fundraising and awareness events, supporting the Partner Relations team and the Volunteer Coordinator, and providing communications support across departments. The Marketing Team is part of the Advancement Team that uses an individualized approach to proactively deepen strategic partnerships with the Lancaster Community at the intersection of where God is at work in the partner and where God is at work through our ministry. We aspire to transform how Lancastrians see people on the margin while inspiring joyful generosity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communication or related field
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience in a sales or fundraising environment an advantage
  • Strong time management, organizational, and independent decision-making skills
  • Creative and technical aptitude, with the ability to learn and use a variety of SaaS tools
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a collaborative, customer-service mindset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint; Excel a plus
  • Integrity, sound judgment, and strong character and employment references
  • Willing to sign the Water Street Mission’s (WSM) Statement of Faith
  • A current and active member and/or regular attendee of a local church.
  • Able to fully support Water Street Mission’s core values and ministry philosophy.
  • Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve, communicating hope and dignity
  • Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity
  • Encourage restoration in the lives of guests, recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers
  • Work in full coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify, report, and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and well-being of guests
  • Embody, encourage, and cultivate WSM culture, purpose, mission, and values in words and actions

  • Experience with basic digital photo and video work is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Director of Marketing on initiatives related to social media, email, mailings, radio, billboards, collateral, and ministry promotion.
  • Create written content that reflects Water Street’s brand, voice, and mission across print, digital, and traditional media
  • Build relationships across campus and meet regularly with ministry teams to identify story opportunities, gather updates, and track important statistics
  • Interview staff, volunteers, guests, donors, and community partners to develop meaningful stories and content
  • Coordinate with the graphic designer, digital marketing staff, video vendors, photographers, and other partners to complete content projects
  • Proofread and edit content created by other team members as needed
  • Support communication needs for Water Street ministries, including Teen Haven, Compass, Water Street Health Services, Wonder Academy, and the Outreach Center
  • Work with the direct mail vendor to strengthen the tone of Water Street’s mailings
  • Help analyze the performance of in-house and vendor-managed direct mail efforts
  • Assist with public relations efforts, including press releases, interviews, and media pitches
  • Help support planned giving marketing efforts through digital, print, direct mail, and collateral projects
  • Assist with creative initiatives and special storytelling projects
  • Create content and materials for Gift Officers, including proposals, impact reports, thank-you letters, case statements, and annual reports
  • Complete assigned work in a reasonable timeframe and at a professional standard
  • Serve as an active member of the Advancement Team
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
