This position contributes to the development of integrated content strategies that support institutional goals and reflect the Museum’s brand identity. Working under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, this role implements the Museum’s content approach across platforms, helping ensure a consistent and compelling narrative that elevates the Museum’s mission, collections, exhibitions, programs, events, and initiatives. The Content Marketing Manager is comfortable telling stories across digital and print formats and is eager to grow their skills in both. The ideal candidate brings a foundation in content strategy, editorial planning, or digital engagement—and is excited to deepen that experience. They are comfortable writing and editing, open to feedback, and able to bring clarity, consistency, and creativity to the Museum’s voice across channels as they continue to develop in the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in content marketing, editorial work, digital storytelling, or related area.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging content across digital and print platforms.
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and an interest in strengthening editorial expertise.
  • Experience contributing to content strategies or editorial planning that supports institutional goals.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems, social media platforms, and basic analytic tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and incorporate feedback while maintaining an audience-first perspective.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning, especially around content strategy, digital engagement, and museum storytelling.
  • A genuine interest in the arts and the mission of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, self-starter and work well under pressure. Manages time efficiently, analyzes and solves problems, independently and if necessary, collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities. Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the Museum’s content strategy under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Manage editorial planning for owned channels, including the Member Magazine, website, email, social media, and ensure content follows brand standards and focuses on visitor needs.
  • Write clear, engaging content for exhibitions, programs, events, and campaigns across digital and print formats.
  • Help maintain consistency in the Museum’s brand voice and tone, offering guidance to staff producing content across departments.
  • Translate curatorial, programmatic, and institutional information into accessible storytelling aimed to engage a broad audience.
  • Provide peer review for M+C materials to support clarity, accuracy, and brand alignment.
  • Assist with editorial review of communications created outside the department, offering feedback or resources as needed.
  • Contribute advertising and promotional copy, ensuring tone and messaging align with priorities.
  • Work with the part-time Associate Content Creator to help monitor social media comments and performance, ensuring responsive and consistent engagement.
  • Partner with the Associate Content Creator by identifying upcoming storytelling moments within the content strategy and ensuring they have clear visibility into upcoming content needs.
  • Collaborate across departments to surface stories and content opportunities that elevate the Museum’s civic and cultural role.
  • Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications with crisis communications as needed.
  • Contribute to setting and tracking performance goals.
  • Partner with marketing colleagues to analyze metrics and audience insights to refine content.
  • Share key findings with the Director of Marketing and Communications and recommend approaches informed by trends.
  • Attend Museum events within regular work hours and occasionally outside regular hours for content capture. This role manages its own workload to remain within standard weekly hours. Occasional after-hours work may be required, and the employee is expected to track their time to ensure an appropriate balance across the workweek.
  • Provide administrative and project support to the Director of Marketing and Communications as needed.
