About The Position

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is seeking experienced content designers and content experts to create and manage participant-facing content for Workforce Australia, the Australian Government's national employment services program. This role involves designing, creating, reviewing, and updating content across various channels, including web (authenticated and unauthenticated environments), mobile apps, digital assistants, and notifications (email, SMS, mobile app). The content is crucial for helping millions of Australians understand their obligations, navigate employment services, access support, and find work. The Participant Content Team operates at the intersection of policy, service delivery, and digital channels, aiming to improve participant experience and support government employment programs. This role supports significant reforms and enhancements within Workforce Australia, including assessment and triaging, search functionality, the Digital Employment Fund, a Stream 3 trial, and career mapping.

Requirements

  • Experience in writing, editing, structuring, and maintaining complex content that meets user needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, consultation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to apply Australian Government and department style guides such as WCAG 2.1, Government Style Manual, and Digital Service Standards.
  • Experience working with and in multidisciplinary teams in an agile project environment.
  • Experience in providing advice to management and senior executives about content design.
  • Ability to work autonomously, use initiative and self-direction, lead and manage staff in a team environment, and manage competing priorities.
  • Skills in UX writing, web writing, and communication writing.
  • Ability to work from one of the department's offices in Australia’s major cities as part of a virtual team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with content production and analysis software such as GatherContent, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console.
  • Experience with HTML.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant communications field.
  • Short courses in writing, content design, online accessibility, or user experience (UX) design.
  • Previous experience in system-related communications with a strategic communication approach to content.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, planning, and writing content that meets user needs and is easy to understand.
  • Implementing best practices using style guides, content patterns, content strategies, and policies.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Using evidence, data, and research to improve content and user experience.
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams in an agile project environment, and using Azure Dev Ops to manage work.
  • Participating in workshops and planning events to develop requirements and features.
  • Preparing documents, presentations, and talking points.
  • Working autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Providing support to content leads, channel leads, directors, and mentoring less experienced staff.
