About The Position

This is a non-exempt position supporting the decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) of facilities at the Kesselring Naval Training Facility. The project is a joint venture with BWXT, forming BWSR LLC to serve as a government subcontractor. Candidates should have experience and knowledge of standard construction activities and methods using hand and power tools. Workers receive specific training in radiological controls, hazardous materials, and asbestos abatement and are expected to maintain their knowledge levels.

Requirements

At least 6 years of experience in construction and/or demolition.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to comply verbatim with work and safety procedures.
Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools.
Carpentry and mechanical skills.
Ability to work in a strict, safety-focused work environment.
Ability to take written and practical examinations.
U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship.
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.

Nice To Haves

Experience with rigging and mechanical lifting equipment.
Experience working with asbestos, lead, PCBs, and other hazardous materials.
Asbestos certification.
40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
Experience working under OSHA guidelines and standards.
Prior experience in radiological D&D and remediation.
Prior experience in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Responsibilities

Demolish and dismantle equipment and structures.
Mechanically disconnect and segregate out-of-service machinery.
Erect scaffolds and work at heights.
Perform radiological decontamination and component removal in strict compliance with radiological work procedures.
Perform asbestos abatement on facilities and components.
Conduct environmental investigation and remediation activities.
Segregate and package hazardous, non-hazardous, chemical, and radiological wastes.
Take written and practical exams to gain and maintain required qualifications.
