About The Position

The Consumer Loans Officer is responsible for interviewing loan and mortgage applicants, analyzing financial information, and assessing credit to approve loans and mortgages within discretionary limits or make recommendations for approvals/declines to a supervisor. This role involves determining loan conditions, inputting information, printing documents, verifying collateral security, and registering appropriate documents. For mortgage loans, the officer initiates instruction letters and security documents, forwarding information to a credit solicitor. They also initiate action to advance funds or loans, review loan file documentation, secure signatures, and advance loans upon completion of signing. The role includes conducting follow-up on delinquent accounts, maintaining collection procedures, and promptly initiating or recommending actions to minimize risk. Additionally, the Consumer Loans Officer reviews overdrafts daily, instructs support staff on actions within credit union policy, and completes/submits reports for external programs and internal accounts. The Lending Administration Function involves conducting annual reviews of lines of credit, auditing loan files for registrations and proper execution of documents, and reviewing monthly operational reports from member businesses. The Sales & Service aspect requires identifying opportunities to promote and cross-sell credit union products, developing member relationships through relationship marketing, and participating in campaigns and promotions. The officer will establish effective member/non-member relationships and business contacts, customizing business packages to meet member needs. Teamwork and adherence to branch operating procedures, lending policies, and security requirements are essential. Other duties may include loan clerking and other lending levels as directed by the branch manager/supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Interview loan and mortgage applicants, analyze financial information, assess credit and approve loans and mortgages within discretionary limits and/or make recommendations for approvals/declines to supervisor.
  • Determine conditions of loan, input information and print documents.
  • Verify search on collateral security, register appropriate documents as required.
  • For mortgage loans, initiate instruction letter and all security documents as applicable and forward information to credit solicitor for opinion.
  • Initiate action to advance funds or advance loans as required. Review loan file documentation, secure appropriate signatures and advance loan on completion of signing.
  • Conduct normal follow-up on delinquent accounts and maintain a systematic collection procedure for early identification of problem accounts and promptly initiate or recommend appropriate action to minimize risk.
  • Review the overdraft daily and instruct support staff to take action within credit union policy (ie., member calls, NSF, or follow up).
  • Complete and submit reports for external programs and internal account and balance to house accounts on a monthly basis which may include: government reports for subsidy programs, municipal property tax reports, credit card reports and/or analysis of sundry Central reports and GL information.
  • Conduct annual reviews of lines of credit.
  • Acquire and review monthly operational reports from member businesses (ie.accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statements).
  • Daily review loan information input against computer reports.
  • May Review the overdraft daily and recommend appropriate action within credit union policy.
  • Audit loan files for appropriate registrations, proper execution of documents and verify that all conditions have been met.
  • Identify opportunities to promote, up sell, and cross sell the credit union credit products (ie., consumer loans, mortgages, lines of credit, credit cards, authorized overdraft) and deposit products and investment vehicles.
  • Exhibit a high commitment to member relationships by promoting the concept of relationship marketing. Develop an affiliation with members by knowing individual member and his/her business relationship with the credit union.
  • Enthusiastically take part in campaigns, specific marketing initiates and/or promotions for new products and services that promote sales and growth in key target areas.
  • Establish effective member/non-member relationships and business contact (ie., lawyers, realtors, accountants). Customize the business package to suit specific member requirements by matching deposit services, loan services, card services, employee and sundry services to business member needs.
  • Portray a good sense of teamwork and establish team relationships with other staff by displaying a willingness to assist others and contribute to team goals by offering ideas and suggestions in a positive fashion.
  • Interpret the branch operating procedures, lending policies and security requirements and ensure that guidelines are adhered to.
  • Other duties as necessary under direction of your branch manager/immediate supervisor. These duties include, but are not limited to loan clerking duties and other levels of lending, particularly where a branch does not have availability of these lender/clerk positions.
