The Consumer Loans Officer is responsible for interviewing loan and mortgage applicants, analyzing financial information, assessing credit, and approving loans and mortgages within discretionary limits or making recommendations for approvals/declines to a supervisor. This role involves determining loan conditions, inputting information, printing documents, verifying collateral security, and registering appropriate documents. For mortgage loans, the officer initiates instruction letters and security documents, forwarding them to a credit solicitor for an opinion. They are also responsible for advancing funds or loans, reviewing loan file documentation, securing signatures, and advancing loans upon completion of signing. The position requires conducting follow-up on delinquent accounts, maintaining collection procedures, and initiating or recommending actions to minimize risk. Daily review of overdrafts and instructing support staff on actions within credit union policy are also key duties. The role includes completing and submitting reports for external programs and internal accounts on a monthly basis, which may involve government reports, municipal property tax reports, credit card reports, and analysis of Central reports and GL information. Additionally, the Consumer Loans Officer conducts annual reviews of lines of credit, acquires and reviews monthly operational reports from member businesses, and audits loan files for registrations, document execution, and condition fulfillment. The role also involves identifying opportunities to promote and cross-sell credit union products and services, developing strong member relationships, participating in sales campaigns, establishing business contacts, and interpreting branch operating procedures and lending policies. Other duties may include loan clerking and other lending levels as directed by the branch manager/immediate supervisor.
