About The Position

Arizona’s Family is looking for an experienced, aggressive Consumer Investigative Reporter to join their powerhouse team in Phoenix. The 'On Your Side' brand is the most recognized in the state, and they seek a journalist to build on and elevate that legacy. This role involves solving problems, uncovering government waste, and using data to tell important community stories. The reporter will be the face of the trusted brand, handling daily consumer hits, deep-diving into long-form investigations, and engaging with the audience on social media.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a consumer investigative reporter
  • Proven investigative skills, including developing sources and accessing open records
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and on-air/streaming abilities
  • Knowledge and effective use of broadcast, digital, and social media tools
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field

Nice To Haves

  • An investigative engine: You don’t wait for tips; you find them. You know how to work a beat and develop sources that others can’t.
  • Data-driven mindset: You’re comfortable with spreadsheets and public records requests, using them to uncover trends and prove your points.
  • Multi-platform fluency: You understand that a story isn't "done" once it airs on TV—you know how to pivot that content for a podcast, a reel, or a deep-dive web article.
  • Aggressive curiosity: You have a "never-say-die" attitude when it comes to getting answers and won't take "no comment" for an answer.
  • Killer storytelling: You can take a complex consumer issue and make it relatable, urgent, and visually compelling.
  • Urgency and empathy: You care about the people you’re helping and feel the weight of their stories, but you move with the speed of a modern newsroom.
  • Experience that matters: You have a proven track record of investigative success and aren't afraid to go toe-to-toe with anyone to get the truth.
  • Experience doing computer-assisted reporting research and database analysis is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own the consumer beat: Turn daily consumer investigative stories that provide immediate value and impact for viewers across Arizona.
  • Expose wrongdoing: Dig deep into local and state government, uncovering corruption and waste through aggressive reporting and smart data analysis.
  • Host the conversation: Co-host a weekly consumer podcast, taking a deeper dive into issues affecting people’s wallets and lives.
  • Drive digital engagement: Consistently produce original consumer content for social platforms, meeting the audience where they are with tips, alerts, and behind-the-scenes updates.
  • Enterprise the big story: Balance short-term wins with long-term investigative projects that spark real change and hold the bar high for journalism.
  • Lead in the clutch: Jump into big-story and major breaking news coverage, bringing an investigative lens to the most important moments of the day.
  • Collaborate for impact: Work closely with the News Director, Senior Investigations team, and marketing to ensure stories reach the widest possible audience.
