About The Position

The Consumer Insights: Customer Experience Intern will support efforts to better understand the Macy's customer journey and identify opportunities to enhance the digital and omnichannel experience. This role will leverage customer feedback, survey data, and market research to uncover insights that inform business decisions and improve customer satisfaction. Macy’s summer internship program provides interns with a hands-on and in-depth understanding of a core business function in retail. Interns have opportunities to directly impact the business as a key part of a team and by sharing new ideas. Macy’s interns experience everything our culture has to offer through exposure to senior leaders and networking opportunities. This 8-week internship program will be held in Macy’s New York, New York Corporate offices.

Requirements

• Junior standing (rising senior at the time of the internship) pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
• All majors will be considered for this opportunity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling, presentation, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals.
• Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze sales, gross margin, inventory productivity, sell-through, and other key retail performance metrics; identify trends; and translate data into actionable business recommendations.
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis techniques; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
• Basic understanding of financial performance metrics, profitability concepts, statistical analysis, and assortment planning.
• Ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external business partners while managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to run, interpret, and analyze reports using assigned systems and tools.
• Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer feedback and survey data, including NPS and satisfaction metrics, to identify customer pain points, trends, and opportunities.
• Support the development of customer experience insights reports and presentations for Digital Product, Site Merchandising, and other cross-functional partners.
• Conduct deep dives into key customer journeys, including product discovery, checkout, and post-purchase experiences, to uncover areas for improvement.
• Perform competitive benchmarking and external research to identify best practices and emerging digital customer experience trends.
• Assist in translating customer insights into actionable recommendations for business partners.
• Support ad hoc customer experience projects and analyses as needed.
