This internship offers a journalism student the opportunity to join the insurance team, covering a range of insurance types. Interns will gain experience in advice journalism, media brand operations, content creation, SEO, and content management systems. The role involves reviewing, updating, and editing content, fact-checking, developing story ideas, engaging with industry experts, and producing multimedia content for social media. Bylined writing opportunities may be available for exceptional interns.

Requirements

  • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.
  • Part-time or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to handle multiple short-term and longer-term assignments while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace.
  • Sharp attention to detail with strong copy editing and fact-checking skills.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English.
  • Must be able to work a hybrid in-office work schedule from our office in Washington, D.C.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Experience with using Google tools such as Docs, Sheets and Gemini, as well as project management tools such as AirTable
  • Interest in and/or familiarity with writing insurance content
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and tools
  • Video and graphics skills
  • Social media savvy
  • GPA of 3.0 or above

Responsibilities

  • Review articles for factual and grammatical accuracy and proper formatting.
  • Identify and catalog articles that need to be updated.
  • Update, edit and optimize older stories.
  • Help research and write insurance content and articles.
  • Create videos and other multimedia products for social media.
  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in trainings and team activities.
  • Assist with research or administrative tasks as needed.
