About The Position

This hourly position supports the ACC Veterinary Technician program by providing expertise in veterinary medicine to meet identified training and educational needs. The role focuses on small animals and is responsible for supporting the department's vet techs in delivering educational content and ensuring graduate proficiency. The DVM will provide daily check-ins, specifically on Wednesdays from 8 am to 5 pm for the radiology lab, and be on call as needed, not exceeding 19 hours per week. This role supports the program during the summer 2026 semester.

Requirements

  • Licensed veterinarian with experience in small animal practice or a related veterinary setting.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Working knowledge of veterinary medical practices, animal health assessment, and preventive care protocols.
  • Knowledge of state veterinary practice regulations and professional standards applicable to licensed veterinarians.
  • Familiarity with animal handling, shelter medicine, vaccination protocols, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Understanding of instructional environments and the role of veterinary oversight in supporting student learning and animal welfare.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills related to animal health and welfare.
  • Ability to identify and address animal health concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing including sensitivity to the needs of students from multicultural backgrounds, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to details and follow through.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with teaching programs, veterinary technology students, or academic environments.
  • Experience with radiology oversight and animal care in educational settings.
  • Experience collaborating with animal shelters or rescue organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment of animals and establishment of protocols for medications/interventions required.
  • Reviews and approves the educational content of the assigned program curriculum for ongoing appropriateness, medical accuracy, and alignment with Vet Tech core content.
  • Coordinates with faculty and staff as necessary in the determination of appropriate corrective intervention measures for animals.
  • Provides adequate controls to assure the quality of delegated responsibilities.
  • Stays current on expectations of both federal and state guidelines regarding Vet Tech-related training and educational programs and assures compliance with those guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the program director/faculty in matters concerning animal care and program alignment.
