We are seeking an AMISYS Developer to support healthcare payer technology initiatives focused on the design, development, testing, and implementation of complex AMISYS solutions. In this role, you will work closely with business, IT, and vendor partners to analyze business needs, develop technical specifications, resolve application and system issues, and deliver high-quality solutions that support client objectives. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on AMISYS development experience, with demonstrated expertise in healthcare payer claims processing, EDI transactions, interfaces, data conversions, and production support. This individual is a collaborative problem solver who can work independently, apply sound judgment to complex technical challenges, and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience developing and supporting AMISYS or AMISYS Advance solutions across healthcare payer functions, including claims processing, member/provider data, benefits, encounters, and configuration-driven workflows.
  • Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications, data mapping documents, interface designs, and development-ready requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex AMISYS application, interface, transaction, batch, and data issues, including root-cause analysis, defect resolution, and production support.
  • Experience managing technical deliverables independently, including development estimates, build activities, testing support, defect remediation, deployment readiness, and status reporting.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and executing unit test plans, integration test scenarios, and validation activities to confirm AMISYS functionality, claims outcomes, interface accuracy, and downstream system impacts.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare payer transaction standards and data flows, including EDI 837 claims transactions, eligibility, claims interfaces, claims conversions, pre-adjudication edits, and downstream system integrations.
  • Ability to collaborate with business analysts, testers, architects, vendors, and junior developers to review technical designs, validate code changes, support testing cycles, and ensure high-quality AMISYS solution delivery.
  • 5–7 years of AMISYS development experience, preferably within a healthcare payer or managed care environment.
  • Strong experience with AMISYS claims processing, claims interfaces, claims conversions, pre-adjudication edits, and EDI 837 inbound transactions.
  • Experience working with AMISYS Advance or related AMISYS integrated solutions.
  • Experience with software development tools, such as Rational.
  • Experience applying testing methodologies within major development languages.
  • Experience with at least one major database system, such as DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or Teradata.
  • Significant experience with at least one development language or platform commonly used in AMISYS environments, such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, Delphi/Object Pascal, Java, or similar technologies.
  • Experience partnering with vendors to support effective solution delivery.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and support informed decision-making in complex or difficult situations.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with vendors.
  • Ability to manage and/or participate in projects while ensuring work is completed on time and meets quality expectations.
  • Self-directed with proven initiative and accountability.
  • Focused on continuous learning, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct interviews or discovery sessions with a focus on fact-finding and requirements gathering.
  • Ability to analyze factual data and use findings to develop clear, well-supported conclusions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or mathematics, or an associate degree in computer science.

Responsibilities

  • Independently analyze complex business problems or opportunities and prepare detailed specifications and estimates from which objects will be written at the project level.
  • Evaluate solution options and make buy vs. build recommendations to management.
  • Independently provide effective communication to business and IS partners. This includes verbal, written, and electronic communication, as well as delivering presentations.
  • Create effective unit test plans from the technical specifications as well as review junior staff members’ unit test plans for completeness/thoroughness.
  • Independently analyze application and system problems and incidents; develop recommendations and solutions for those problems, implement those solutions, and provide communications on the associated actions, business impacts, and results.
  • Identify best practices, communicate and implement these practices to the department.
  • Create and sustain business literacy and understanding of business processes in the IS organization.
  • Provide detailed application and code expertise to the development, testing, business teams.
  • Coordinates vendor solution delivery and partners with vendors to effectively meet business needs and timelines.
  • Provide direction and assistance to junior staff members.
