The successful candidate must self-identify as a member of 2SLGTBQIA+ in order to be considered for this role. This position reports to the Mental Health and Addictions (MH&A) Program Development, and works in close collaboration with the Zone Director, responsible for Gender Affirming Care and 2SLGTBQIA+ initiatives within Mental Health & Addictions Program. The Consultant is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, ongoing coordination, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion, prevention and early intervention strategies designed to support and advance initiatives related to gender affirming care, and to promote mental wellness. The Consultant also works to facilitate the implementation plan associated with health services planning and contributes to quality improvement initiatives, including but not limited to developing and implementing new models of service delivery and supporting workforce development initiatives. The Consultant also works to facilitate the implementation plan associated with health services planning. The Consultant provides leadership, consultation and expertise within MH&A and stimulates intersectoral action, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with national, Atlantic, provincial, district, municipal and community partners as well as with other departments within NSHA, including but not limited to primary care and public health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health related discipline (Health Promotion, Public Health or Health Education preferred)
  • Minimum five years related experience required with experience in supporting 2SLGBTQIA+/gender-affirming care initiatives which inform policy changes and to develop programs aimed at promoting health, and enhancing population health outcomes
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret data and convey results in a way that is meaningful to key audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred background and experience in research methods, policy development, analysis, and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence informed decision making
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Responsibilities
