About The Position

Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) is seeking a Consultant for their Employee Health & Benefits team, specifically focusing on Private Equity clients. This role requires deep knowledge of health and welfare plans, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to advise clients on benefit strategies to meet their long-term goals. The Consultant will serve as a key resource for clients and internal teams, manage vendor relationships, lead negotiations, and contribute to internal initiatives. The position involves coordinating project plans, developing strategies, managing RFPs, renewals, and implementations, analyzing data, and understanding underwriting and pricing. Travel to client sites is expected up to 20% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred
  • 10+ years in insurance industry experience with a thorough understanding of all benefit plans (medical, dental, life, STD, LTD, etc) design, rate structures, funding alternatives and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with advanced writing skills.
  • Proficient in all areas of Health & Welfare compliance (i.e. HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, 5500, DOL, etc).
  • Life Accident & Health Licensure or commitment to achieving within 3 months of start date.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of internal staff & management, external clients, prospects and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Bring deep knowledge of health and welfare consulting to our Private Equity-owned clients
  • Serve as a go-to resource for Associate Consultants and other team members
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with vendor and carrier partners
  • Lead carrier negotiations when needed, aligning to client goals
  • Communicate in a way that builds trust with stakeholders at all levels of the client organization
  • Own day-to-day client relationships and lead and contribute to internal initiatives that improve how we serve clients
  • Support, coach, and provide direction to Associate Consultants
  • Coordinate, develop, and execute project plans, including periodic presentations for specific client groups
  • Develop and manage short- and long-term benefits strategies, strengthening client relationships
  • Participate in the RFP process from planning through evaluation and recommendations
  • Manage renewal and implementation processes, helping ensure a smooth experience for clients
  • Analyze benchmark/survey data for client plans; summarize, validate, and translate insights into clear recommendations
  • Understand key underwriting and pricing levers across lines of coverage
  • Manage post-implementation activities across lines of coverage to confirm solutions are working as intended
