About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Construction Utility Coordinator to support clients in the Central Florida region. This role is crucial for the transportation system, ensuring effective coordination with project teams, contractors, local agencies, and municipalities. The coordinator will manage utility relocation activities, review plans and schedules, ensure utility owner responsiveness, and oversee full project cycles. The position involves reviewing roadway plans, utility work schedules, and permits, ensuring utility owner responsiveness, and managing full project cycles for clients. The coordinator is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and ensuring utility owner responsiveness in the preparation of utility work schedules and activities.

Requirements

  • Possess a degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management; prior construction experience is preferred.
  • Alternatively, be a high school graduate or equivalent with at least four years of experience in construction and/or utility experience.
  • Four (4) Years of experience performing utility coordination in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation Standards, policies, procedures and agreements.
  • Capable of exercising independent initiative to support the supervisor by relieving clerical detail.
  • Knowledgeable of Florida Department of Transportation Standards, policies, procedures and agreements and proficiency in necessary computer programs.
  • Competence in preparing and updating spreadsheets, and compliance documentation, and processing permits.
  • Ability to become proficient in PDF Acrobat Pro and Blue Beam.
  • Ability to learn One Stop Permitting (OSP) and Electronic Review Comments (ERC) for FDOT.
  • Interpreting survey data from the field.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Required qualifications or certifications for this role may be obtained within six months from hire provided supervision and direction are given by a Senior Construction Utility Coordinator.
  • Required certifications include: FDOT Advanced MOT

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating utility relocation activities with utility companies, contractors, and project teams to minimize conflicts and delays in construction schedules.
  • Reviewing and analyzing utility plans, specifications, and agreements to ensure compliance with project requirements and regulations.
  • Conducting regular site visits to monitor utility relocation progress and identify potential issues or conflicts.
  • Facilitating communication between utility companies, contractors, and project stakeholders to resolve conflicts and maintain project timelines.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate documentation of utility coordination activities, including meeting minutes and correspondence.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of utility relocation strategies to minimize project impacts and costs.
  • Participating in project meetings and providing updates on utility coordination activities to project management and stakeholders.
  • Under general supervision, performing routine duties related to utility coordination and relocation.
  • Displaying knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications.
  • Applying sound professional judgment on details of work and utility-related issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding utility relocations.
  • Collaborating with design teams to incorporate utility considerations into project plans and specifications.
