About The Position

The City of Windsor is seeking a Construction Technician to join their Operations department. This role involves assisting in municipal survey, inspection, and laboratory and field testing functions. The technician will plot and manipulate digital files using AutoCAD, assist in operating survey/field testing equipment, and work in various weather conditions during all phases of construction. Responsibilities include entering confined spaces for visual observations, performing concrete and granular material tests, collecting asphalt samples, and physically disconnecting downspouts. The position may require occasional travel to construction sites using a City of Windsor vehicle and performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. Other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency
  • Over one (1) year of Construction experience in the areas of inspection, surveying, and/or construction material testing
  • Current, valid and lawful Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act
  • Ability to become proficient in Confined Space Entry

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of related courses such as Total Station Surveying, AutoCAD, or courses from the Construction Engineering Technicians program from an accredited college

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in municipal survey, inspection, and laboratory and field testing functions
  • Plotting and manipulating digital files with the aid of AutoCAD software
  • Assisting in the operation of various survey/field testing related equipment
  • Working in all types of weather during all phases of construction
  • Entering confined spaces such as sanitary/storm sewers, and access chambers for visual observations
  • Performing concrete compression tests, granular material tests and record results for review
  • Collecting asphalt samples from construction sites
  • Performing physical disconnection of downspouts as per supervisory instruction
  • Occasionally traveling to various construction sites utilizing a City of Windsor vehicle
  • Performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program
  • Performing other related duties as required
