About The Position

Segra is seeking a qualified and experienced Construction Technician/Field Service Engineer to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role is responsible for overseeing construction activities on worksites, primarily supervising construction contractors. The individual will plan, implement, and oversee construction efforts across multiple work sites within their designated market. Key duties include managing day-to-day network activities such as equipment installation, circuit/node turn-up and testing, customer premise equipment (Ethernet Network Interface Devices, Routers, Data Switches, premise Firewalls, IAD’s, Hosted phones, ONT’s), preventive maintenance, and testing/troubleshooting. The role involves reporting field progress to the Construction Manager and/or Project Manager to ensure projects are completed within timeline parameters. The Construction Technician/Field Service Engineer will interact with internal and external customers, service technicians, technical support personnel, and other telecom professionals. Additionally, the role requires being on call for emergency repair and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required and/or a combination of job-related experience.
  • Safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of general construction experience, telecom equipment installation experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with DC power to support tertiary power applications.
  • Good planning and organization skills to balance and prioritize work.
  • Some travel will be expected, both overnight and daily travel.
  • Excellent understanding of construction, engineering, and permitting prints.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction activities on the worksite.
  • Supervise construction contractors in the field.
  • Plan, implement, and oversee construction efforts at several work sites within their designated market.
  • Assist in day-to-day network activities, including equipment installation, circuit/node turn-up & testing, customer premise equipment (Ethernet Network Interface Devices, Routers, Data Switches, premise Firewalls, IAD’s, Hosted phones, ONT’s), preventive maintenance, and testing/troubleshooting.
  • Report on field progress to the Construction Manager and/or Project Manager.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, service technicians, technical support personnel, and other telecom professionals.
  • Be on call to cover emergency repair and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and report inventory/material usage during the construction cycle.
  • Lead a crew to completion in conformance with schedule, customer requirements, and budget guidelines.
  • Identify and troubleshoot construction problems and offer timely and safe solutions.
  • Ensure all projects are completed within the parameters set forth in the estimated timeline.
