About The Position

AECOM CS Federal is seeking to hire a 2nd shift Construction Superintendent for our construction project at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. This role provides overall on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of construction projects. The Superintendent is responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities within their assigned area of responsibility, which may encompass a single area, multiple areas, or a multi-discipline construction project. They may serve as the primary client contact for day-to-day jobsite activities or coordinate with client's resident representatives on jobsite activities within their assigned operational area. The role involves maintaining control of the site and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with site safety protocols and client/subcontractor requirements, and focusing on production, manpower efficiency, and milestone completion. The Superintendent is expected to plan several weeks ahead, identify constructability concerns proactively, find solutions to problems, produce accurate daily reports, and document issues properly through RFIs, daily logs, and real-time communication. Building trust with crews and subcontractors, facilitating AECOM/CS Federal Tishman policies, and interfacing with other administrative and field staff, particularly the Project Manager, are key aspects of this position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, engineering technology, building construction, building science or a similar field
6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Valid US Drivers License
US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience working as a Superintendent on a government construction project.
Ability to work scheduled 2nd shift for the duration of the project.
Construction sequencing/scheduling experience
A strong working knowledge of Procore
HAZWOPER certification
NAVFAC experience
Familiar with requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1, and experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance.
Familiar with the United Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)
Knowledge on the 3 phases of quality construction
Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Experience in heavy civil and/or marine construction.
CQM certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days after hire
EM-385-1-1 and OSHA 30 certification required or the ability to obtain within 30 days after hire
Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

Maintain control of the site and subcontractors
Ensure assigned jobsite operations are in compliance with site safety protocols and subcontractor compliance.
Ensure subcontractor work aligns with client & subcontract requirements.
Understands CPM schedules and sequencing of work
Focus on production, manpower efficiency, and milestone completion
Plan several weeks ahead instead of only reacting to daily issues
Ability to identify constructability concerns in advance of scheduled work
Find solutions and not only identify problems
Produce and maintain accurate daily reports and tracking
Document issues properly through RFIs, daily logs and real time communication with on-site project management
Build trust with crews and subcontractors
Facilitate AECOM/CS Federal Tishman policy/protocols.
Interfaces with all other administrative field staff, field management staff and particularly the Project Manager in a coordinated effort.
