About The Position

The Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy. This position directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course; gardens, landscaping, tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school education required.
  • College degree from accredited college or university in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, and/or Soil Sciences preferred or equivalent work experience/certifications.
  • 2-5 years golf course maintenance, preferably in a supervisory and/or management position or increasing responsibility.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess or obtain Colorado Qualified Supervisor Pesticide License within 120 days.
  • Category 206 – Turf Pest Control
  • General Test
  • Advanced computer skills required for financial reporting and payroll management.
  • Must possess the ability to lift 50 pounds and complete the related physical tasks involved with the position.
  • Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating, and motivating personnel.
  • Successful applicants will possess an understanding of the game of golf and should utilize their skills to always provide our membership with Championship Quality Conditions and well-manicured grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, clubhouse grounds, and landscape areas.
  • Schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in pesticide/fertilizer applications and or operates and calibrates pesticide/fertilizer application equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and control system.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
  • Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and equipment use and work methods.
  • Supervises and participates in the removal of snow during the winter season as well as winter care for the course and associated grounds.
  • Requires working knowledge of the management and maintenance of golf course tees, greens, and fairways. The seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees. Pest control methods and materials, drainage control methods, and irrigation system control, including but not limited to wells, pumps, controllers, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and safe use when mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Requires ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Prepare clear and concise reports and maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Assists with Rolling Hills’ ongoing Tree Inventory and assists in recommendations for tree pruning, shaping, removal, and plantings.
  • Attends and contributes to monthly green committee meetings with GCS and Director.
