About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a Construction Site Safety Specialist for employment in our Arlington, VA office. The Construction Site Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant construction work environment. This role proactively identifies and mitigates hazards, conducts site inspections and safety training, ensures compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations, and promotes a strong safety culture among project teams and subcontractors. The Site Safety Specialist works closely with project management to reduce incidents, prevent injuries, and support successful project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, Health & Environment or related field and 2+ years of experience in construction/demolition safety on major infrastructure programs.
  • Experience in managing safety as an owner’s representative.
  • Experience in SH&E management and training.
  • Experienced in the design and deployment of safety related procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to interface with construction sub-contractors.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review
  • As a condition of employment, candidate must be able to pass GSA Government Clearance Process.

Nice To Haves

  • Further industry recognized credentials (i.e., CSP, CHST, CRIS, etc.) are favorable.
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health (29 CFR 1926) Course
  • Accredited First Aid-CPR-AED Training (i.e. Red Cross or AHA)
  • Effective in both oral and written communications
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint applications
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Sr. HSE Onsite for the duration of the program to oversee the safety performance of the Design-Builder.
  • Coordinate with the Design-Builder’s Site-Safety and Health Officers (SSHOs) to facilitate safe contract performance and communicate safety matters to the Safety Manager.
  • Conduct inspections of Design-Builder activities
  • Coordinate inspection and auditing efforts with the client and Program Safety Manager.
  • Suspend Design-Builder work that presents imminent danger as defined in the Program Safety Management Plan.
  • Investigate and document near misses and incidents in coordination with the Design-Builder, Program Executive, Program Safety Manager and client.
  • Attend Design-Builder safety meetings.
