About The Position
Join a contractor supporting new dormitory and office building construction at UC Santa Barbara. Project scope includes commercial building construction, structural work, interior buildout, MEP installation, and campus development activities. The Construction Safety Manager will oversee project safety activities, including new hire onboarding, safety training, JHA development and review, field observations, audits, and contractor safety compliance.
Requirements
- OSHA 500 or 510
- Minimum 3+ Years of Construction Safety Experience
- Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards
- Working knowledge of Commercial Building Construction
- Working knowledge of Contractor Safety Management
- Working knowledge of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Development
- Working knowledge of Safety Training & Orientation Programs
- Working knowledge of Hazard Recognition & Risk Assessment
- Working knowledge of Construction Auditing & Inspections
- Working knowledge of Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions
- Working knowledge of Fall Protection & Elevated Work
- Working knowledge of Aerial Lifts & MEWPs
- Working knowledge of Material Handling Operations
- Working knowledge of Multi-Trade Construction Coordination
- Working knowledge of Construction Risk Assessment & Mitigation
Nice To Haves
- BCSP: CHST, ASP, or CSP Certification
- Higher Education or Campus Construction Experience
- General Contractor Safety Experience
- Large Multi-Trade Construction Project Experience
- OSHA 500 Certification

Responsibilities
- Provide daily field safety oversight for campus construction activities
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and onboarding programs
- Develop, review, and track Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Perform routine site inspections, audits, observations, and hazard assessments
- Monitor subcontractor activities and construction operations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements
- Identify unsafe conditions and coordinate corrective actions
- Provide field coaching and reinforce safe work practices with craft personnel
- Lead and attend project safety meetings
- Coordinate safety activities with project management, supervision, and subcontractors
- Maintain required safety documentation, inspection records, and compliance reports
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the project
