About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist, H&S Engineer, or H&S Manager to support AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) programs. This field-based role requires reporting to construction projects around Shreveport, Louisiana, five days a week, with occasional travel to other domestic locations. The Construction Safety Manager will partner internally with various DCPD teams and externally with General Contractors and AWS Suppliers to achieve health and safety goals, improve safety culture, and ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements and AWS Safety Management Program (SMP) standards. The role involves deploying ISO 45001-aligned programs, influencing program development, and implementing health and safety programs across all phases of DCPD projects. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, able to advise, instruct, and challenge teams on H&S matters with diplomacy and tact.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
  • ASP, CSP, or CHST Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Influence program development, framework, and strategy while deploying ISO 45001-aligned programs in the field.
  • Implement health and safety programs across leadership, planning, support, operational controls, continuous improvement, and performance management.
  • Ensure construction activities meet jurisdictional requirements and AWS Safety Management Program (SMP) standards through systematic compliance and assurance activities.
  • Review due diligence risk assessments with real estate, preconstruction, and construction operations on H&S aspects of the AWS H&S management program to ensure adequate implementation.
  • Coordinate with DCPD managers to prioritize H&S in planning and execution in all phases of DCPD projects.
  • Ensure and monitor General Contractors and AWS deployment vendors' compliance to onboarding requirements in Avetta.
  • Perform campus H&S kickoff sessions, and perform reviews of General Contractor and AWS deployment vendor’s Construction Safety Management Plans.
  • Document data and anecdotes in standard reporting tools (Weekly Business Reviews, Monthly Project Reviews) for DCPD and H&S leadership teams.
  • Manage 3rd party/internal H&S resources on DCPD projects (weekly business reviews, monthly project reviews).
  • Identify improvement opportunities at project(s), and partner with Data Center Health and Safety (DCHS) Operational Team on regional issues that impact construction/operations handover phases.
  • Audit projects to the mental model ‘do you have a process, and are you following it?’ Then analyze data (leading and lagging indicators) for trends, risks/opportunities and report out at project/regional levels and within governance programs.
  • Conduct regular site visits with H&S Consultants, construction managers and Data Center Health and Safety Operational teams.
  • Host project and regional specific contractor and internal team H&S kickoff sessions and annual performance review sessions.
  • Use data and anecdotes to tactically drive internal customers to manage H&S risks, which includes being an escalation path for issue resolution and managing site-based H&S team members and/or consultants.
  • Apply knowledge of jurisdictional requirements, regional best practices, cultural norms, and location specific characteristics to improve DCPD activities in H&S.
  • Develop DCPD competencies to enable ownership of H&S solutions.
  • Deploy mechanisms that manage H&S, while developing competencies and ownership of H&S in the business.
