About The Position

The Construction (QA) Inspector will be responsible for performing detailed inspections to ensure the required level of workmanship adheres to the contract, project plans, and specifications, particularly in airfield runway construction improvements and pavement resurfacing. This role involves providing daily QA reports, reviewing contractor progress and submittals, ensuring safety compliance, and assisting with payment requests and change orders. The position is located on Shemya Island, AK, and requires the candidate to be a US Citizen who can pass a federal background review and drug screen. The role may involve working in remote locations with extreme environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must pass a federal background review and drug screen.
  • High School diploma or GED with at least 7 years of construction inspection experience performing quality assurance verification on construction contract, airfield runway improvements, roadways or pavement resurfacing experience.
  • Or, Associate Degree (two-year degree) / Technical Training Degree (two years of training) with at least 5 years of construction inspection experience performing quality assurance verification on construction contract, airfield runway improvements, roadways or pavement resurfacing experience.
  • Or, Bachelor of Science Degree and at least 3 years of construction inspection experience performing quality assurance verification on construction contract, airfield runway improvements, roadways or pavement resurfacing experience.
  • Experience enforcing EM 385-1-1, OSHA rules and regulations and all applicable safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with performing the following duties: quality assurance inspections; submittal review, quality verification, validating contractor pay request and preparing daily reports.
  • Interaction with clients and contractors requires the candidate to have a professional presentation along with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Airfield runway construction improvements and pavement resurfacing experience highly preferred.
  • Structural pile or shoreline revetment construction experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Resident Management System (RMS 3.0), preferred.
  • Experience with Federal Construction projects, particularly US Army Corps of Engineers, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and support three-phase inspection system.
  • Provide daily QA reports to document all activities observed for each on-site day in sufficient detail.
  • Review and analyze construction contractor progress.
  • Ensure safety requirements are met, including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA requirements.
  • Monitor submittments utilizing a submittal status log.
  • Review of design, comment logging and back-checking; verify accurate as-built drawings.
  • Review and comment on the accuracy of the construction contractor’s requests for payment.
  • Review and acknowledge daily reports, including verification of the project schedule by indicating the activities worked on that day and the activities behind schedule.
  • Maintain an Inspectors Site Inspection Report.
  • Assist in response for Requests for Information (RFI), modifications and change orders.
  • Participate in pre-final and final inspections, assist in preparations of detailed punch-lists and check that all punch list items are corrected prior to final payment.
