About The Position

William Charles Construction, a MasTec Company, is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Manager for the Rockford, IL & surrounding areas. This role is crucial for managing various road and highway projects. The position is location-based but requires approximately 50% travel to worksites throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided, along with meals and lodging for required overnight travel. William Charles Construction, with over a century of experience, focuses on heavy civil construction, environmental management, and mining/materials production. As part of MasTec's Clean Energy & Infrastructure segment, the company is involved in industrial, renewables, and infrastructure sectors, emphasizing sustainability and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related degree (combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • 5-10 years of Project Management experience in heavy civil and DOT roadway projects.
  • Familiarity with concrete/excavation/aggregate/underground scopes.
  • Experience with computerized estimating software (HCSS or B2W).
  • Experience with Project Scheduling utilizing P-6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency with HCSS Heavyjob, Procore, Vista Viewpoint.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to find solutions from problems.
  • Team approach to management.
  • OSHA 30 Hour certification.

Responsibilities

  • Managing field operations and contract administration, including safety, personnel, subcontract scheduling, material and equipment procurement, and schedule.
  • Safety planning for all planning and field operations activities.
  • Contract management, including identifying potential change orders, scope changes, field condition changes, and changes in the ability to perform as bid.
  • Creating and managing budgets.
  • Managing Subcontractor and Vendor relationships, including identifying and mitigating potential risk and cost overrun exposure.
  • Planning applicable equipment types, personnel skill sets, means, methods, and updating schedules.
  • Maintaining accurate cost accounting, schedule impacts, authorized change order logs, and communication logs.
  • Submitting monthly cost to complete projections.
  • Managing the contract value as affected by weather, changed conditions, authorized change orders, pending change orders, and accurate quantities completed.
  • Accurately reporting and compiling weekly quantities completed in Viewpoint.
  • Ensuring budget changes are completed accurately on a weekly basis.
  • Ensuring all change orders are agreed upon, signed, and reconciled every 30 days upstream to the customer and downstream to vendors and subcontractors.
  • Updating the change order log to verify the current contract amount.
  • Accurately tracking and recording purchase order committed costs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
