About The Position

Certerra-Southern Engineering is hiring a CMT (Construction Materials Testing) Technician to perform testing of various construction materials on active construction sites to verify compliance with project documents.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be deemed insurable by the firm insurance carrier.
• Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exhibit excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and/or within Team environments.

Nice To Haves

• American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Technician Level I Certification
• National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies (NICET) CMT Level I or higher (soils or concrete)
• International Code Council (ICC) Soils Certification
• NCDOT Certifications (e.g., QMS Roadway Technician conventional density, ABC/borrow pit sampling)

Responsibilities

• Concrete/Grout/Mortar inspection and testing: Monitoring for proper placement techniques, Testing for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, Molding of compressive strength specimens, Core drilling
• Asphalt: Establishing test locations, Checking load temperature, Verifying property laydown and rolling practices, Core drilling for density/thickness specimen
• Soil/Aggregate testing: Testing density/compaction, Observing proofrolling, Verifying proper moisture content, Checking bearing capacity for foundation support, Excavation quantification
