About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Nashville, Tennessee. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on, outdoor work and is eager to learn and grow within the field of construction materials testing. As a vital member of our team, you will contribute to ensuring construction projects meet quality and safety standards by performing field and lab tests, conducting inspections, and documenting findings. You will start with basic concrete sampling and testing, with opportunities to expand into soils, asphalt, and masonry as you develop your skills. The position involves paid, on-the-job training, support for certifications (ACI and ICC), and working outdoors in various conditions. Responsibilities include performing field and lab tests, maintaining equipment, accurate reporting using Metafield®, and conducting inspections per IBC codes. The role requires adaptability to shifting weekly work hours based on project needs and weather, potentially including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).

  • Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
  • Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule and occasional travel.
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking over rough terrain, standing for up to 12 hours a day, and routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs.
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).
