About The Position

Lidl US is searching for the next Construction Manager to join our Regional Real Estate team! As part of our expansion across the US east coast, we are now looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and driven professional to join the Real Estate team in our Charlotte, NC (CLT) Regional Property Office. The Construction Manager is responsible for the design and construction of the physical structures needed to conduct Lidl’s daily operations within the NC and SC market, including new store builds, adaptive reuses, offices, and special construction projects. This role ensures regional projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards while navigating local municipal zoning, environmental regulations, and unique market constraints to meet the needs of the business.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related field
  • In lieu of degree, 5+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above
  • Must possess and maintain, or be able to obtain, a current, valid US driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, health and safety regulations and entitlement processes
  • Knowledge of Southeast construction means and methods, high-density/urban retail constraints, NC and SC building codes, health and safety regulations, and local utility/entitlement processes
  • Experience managing commercial/retail build-outs in the NC and SC metropolitan area highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Effectively delegate and guide the work of other team members in accordance with Company principles and management model
  • Implement and manage assigned programs, processes and initiatives through effective delegation and collaboration with stakeholders
  • Analyze and evaluate current processes and projects for recommended optimization
  • Evaluate industry best practices and monitor developments and innovations within the retail sector particular to their business that may be beneficial to the daily operations of the organization
  • Establish design parameters based on specific NC business needs and site-specific constraints (e.g., high-density parking requirements, utility infrastructure, and strict regional architectural mandates)
  • Research, analyze, calculate, and manage construction costs tailored to the NC and SC labor and material markets
  • Conduct quality controls of construction projects
  • Manage the design process from conceptual planning through construction completion while maintaining prototypical standards
  • Manage bidding of general contractors in compliance with Lidl's international policies and guidelines
  • Lead a project team consisting of design consultants, general contractors, and internal departments
  • Monitor and manage project performance of internal and external stakeholders
  • Serve as principal liaison to internal stakeholders
  • Manage full entitlement, zoning variances, site plan approvals, and due diligence processes through NC and SC municipal planning boards and environmental agencies
  • Train and guide the work of other team members
  • Create KPI reports
  • Conduct negotiations with regional manufacturers, trade subcontractors, and suppliers in order to purchase targeted construction products
  • Perform other duties as assigned
