About The Position

The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating with utilities, municipalities, engineers, developers, and permitting authorities; manage make-ready and right-of-way activities; supporting network design, materials planning, and capital project development; and ensuring timely responses to sales-related construction quotes. The role also involves tracking construction progress, addressing issues with project leadership, processing damage claims, analyzing project data, and providing training and guidance to construction leads while managing multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment. Supervise and evaluate construction personnel; coordinate construction efforts through in-house and contract labor for new construction and rebuild projects both aerial and underground Represent the interests of Wave in a professional manner with governmental, municipal, and related industry organizations Coordinate and work with utility companies for all construction related work in the right of way, including but not limited to pole transfers, system maintenance, pole inspection, relocation of plant and plant extensions Coordinate with engineers and developers in designing the plant; work closely with staff responsible for designing, drawing and sketching installation and location of equipment such as nodes, amplifiers, power supplies and cables; complete material orders needed for planned construction Monitor contractor performance; ensure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements and ensure all personnel and contractors are adhering to local and state construction requirements and codes Perform site inspections for quality control and safety Coordinate permitting and make-ready process Ensure staff is responding to quotes for the residential and small business sales teams to meet tight deadlines Communicate with Project Manager or designated supervisor regarding concerns about construction progress. Review and process damage claims and work closely with staff in developing capital projects and purchase requests for the construction team Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 years Cable Television or Telecommunications technical experience
  • 7-10 years of experience in working and/or supervising a cable TV/telecommunications construction department
  • Vision ability; close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes and G.O.95 and 128
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects; amounts of projects, sizes, complexity, budget value, duration, etc. will increase with each level for Fiber Construction Lead I through Manager, Fiber Construction.
  • Advanced understanding of proper safety construction practices.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber route planning and engineering for building entry and network expansion projects.
  • Advanced understanding of the permitting process for railroad, DOT, cities, counties and pole owners.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber splicing and installation practices.
  • Advanced understanding of network topology.
  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optic principles and methodology.
  • Advanced understanding of GIS.
  • Ability to build and establish effective relationships with municipalities, government agencies, property management, vendors, etc.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Ability to track and analyze data against project forecasts.
  • Strong critical-thinking, attention to detail and time management skills are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment without supervision.
  • Ability to provide training and support for Construction Lead I-II.
  • Ability to live within 30 miles, or maximum of 1-hour commute during regular commuting hours from the assigned territory. Territories are defined by management and can be altered at any time.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have ability to operate standard office equipment, to include personal computer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and calculator.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
