About The Position

The Veteran Affairs is seeking a Construction Manager - Mechanical Engineer (CM-ME) to provide construction management support during the design and construction phases for multiple non-recurring maintenance (NRM) projects at the Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHS). This role involves providing professional and technical consultative assistance related to operations, renovation, and new construction programs. The CM-ME will support the Contracting Officer and Representative in areas such as project management, project engineering, planning, scheduling, design reviews, code compliance, testing, record keeping, quality control, quality assurance, cost control, and general oversight of design and construction projects.

Requirements

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school of higher education.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in both design and construction.
Ability to understand and master local, state, and federal jurisdiction requirements.
Knowledge of Construction Contract Documents, including Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawings.
Skillset and working knowledge of engineering services, building codes, budgeting, and scheduling.
Communication, language, and software skills with the ability to utilize various computer programs.

Responsibilities

Monitor project financial data and budgetary cost accounting, including administration of construction contract change orders and maintaining project fund spreadsheets.
Prepare and maintain project schedules, coordinate with contractors, and address schedule slippages with recommendations.
Conduct or attend progress meetings to review project status, schedules, and contractor payment requirements.
Assist in issue resolution by maintaining thorough records and documenting regular progress meetings.
Monitor testing and inspection services of independent agencies for quality control.
Provide commissioning services, including start-up, calibration, and certification of facility systems.
Perform additional construction-related services such as maintaining as-built drawings, performing routine inspections, identifying non-conforming work, compiling lists of defects, and coordinating owner-supplied equipment.
