About The Position

Michels Construction, Inc. is seeking a Construction Manager for their Heavy Civil division. This role is crucial for initiating projects by designing and constructing foundations and industrial facilities. The work, while not always visible, is essential and improves lives. The Construction Manager will serve as the main point of contact for owners and their representatives in the field, directing the activities of field workers on construction projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Experience in deep foundations, heavy civil, design build projects
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team
  • Travel required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote a strong health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) culture for all employees, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to comply with HSEQ policies, procedures, regulations, and continual improvement objectives.
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards and risks with a commitment to correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe or nonconforming actions or conditions.
  • Supervise superintendents, foremen, and assigned crews.
  • Work with the Project or Regional Manager to recruit, select, hire, and terminate field employees as required.
  • Conduct daily JSA talks promoting Michels' safety and job quality.
  • Assist the foreman with scheduling work, crews, tools, and equipment for efficiency and to minimize travel time.
  • Work with the Project Manager to update the schedule.
  • Responsible for regular maintenance on and the appearance of all equipment.
  • Work with the Regional Manager and Equipment & Logistics Manager to manage materials, tools, and supplies at the field level.
  • Assist in planning field execution strategies concerning job setup, traffic control plans, lining plans, bypass design, setup, and operation, installation method, cure method, and cure time.
  • Review production schedules along with work in progress and take corrective action in order to maintain profitability and report work in progress promptly and accurately; review vendor invoices and complete or review daily field reports.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and oversee subcontractors.
  • Assist with tracking project expenditures and assist with monthly cost projections.
  • Assist project managers with bidding projects, including sharing innovative cost-saving ideas.
  • Identify changes in project scope and/or conditions.
  • Assist the Project Manager in processing change orders.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of mitigation tactics to eliminate claims from homeowners and businesses.
  • Assist with training needs analysis for field personnel and provide recommendations to improve existing skills, as well as identify individuals for cross-training.
  • Prepare submittals for assigned projects for the Project Manager’s approval.
