About The Position

Duke Energy's Construction Management Internship Program offers students the opportunity to participate in two to three sessions, each with a different department, to provide diverse work experiences and exposure to Transmission Work Management, Construction Management, and Project Management. Students will work closely with their program coordinator during their initial session to plan their future rotations, which may be in the Spring, Summer, or Fall. The program is a 12-week duration from May 2027 to August 2027, requiring a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week. Each rotation provides exposure to different workgroups within Duke Energy to enhance learning and practical experience. Students will work on a variety of construction and project management activities designed to improve the reliability and functionality of Duke Energy’s Transmission assets.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Construction Management.
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2027.
  • Cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Ability to work full-time for the 12-week internship duration.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week throughout the program.
  • Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience in scheduling, strategic oversight of work plans, and resource allocation within Work Management.
  • Work with teams responsible for the successful execution of construction or maintenance projects, including resource analysis and workforce planning.
  • Support various transmission groups in the planning and execution of construction related activities, including contributing to the scheduling of work activities.
  • Track construction production and status in the field to ensure contractors are meeting schedule.
  • Work alongside and as a liaison between contractors and Duke teams (Engineers and Project Managers) to ensure safety, financial, reliability, and schedule goals are met.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction, leadership, and management of various projects across Duke Energy’s portfolio, focusing on resource allocation, cost control, and scheduling.
  • Gain an understanding of project lifecycle management and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Participate in the design and analysis of structures, systems, and facilities within Duke Energy’s Transmission department.
  • Develop skills in managing project timelines, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring efficient project execution.
  • Work with engineers, construction teams, and project managers to support project goals and milestones.
