About The Position

Supervises the activities of workers engaged in a variety of public works maintenance and construction activities.

Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent
• Three to five years of experience in public works construction and maintenance, including one year of experience as crew leader
• Physical exam required
• Valid current Commercial Driver's License
• Water (Pipeline Maintenance) - Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license upon hire
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve months at least a Class "D" water distribution license with the ability to obtain a Class "C" water distribution license with three years
• Streets - Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license
• Wastewater/Waste - Possession of a Texas Class "B" Drivers license
• Class C Waste Water License or a Waste Water Collection II License or able to obtain within 12 months
• Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in public works maintenance
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions at work
• Ability to plan, supervise, and assign work of a large number of employees
• Ability to determine the effectiveness of and need for public works maintenance
• Ability to make time and material estimates
• Ability to establish and effective working and public relationships
• Ability to interpret plan specifications
• Ability to communicate effectively with others
• Possess certification if required by the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission

• Prefer experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator

Responsibilities

• Supervise laborers and skilled construction and maintenance workers on maintenance, repair, and construction of public works projects
• Instruct the crew on the repair methods to be used and ensure that safe procedures are followed
• Transport crew members, tools, and materials to job locations
• Make time and material estimates
• Assist the supervisor in planning work and make work assignments
• Ensure that machines and equipment are available and in proper operating condition
• Write daily reports and keep time cards
• Perform related duties as directed
