About The Position

This role is for a Construction Laborer Trainee in a 1,000-hour program designed to develop all skills required to perform as a member of the laborer crew. Trainees will work under the direction of the foreperson, learning to read roadway plans and standard drawings. Tasks include the installation of erosion and sediment control measures, maintenance and protection of traffic, and asphalt patching and compacting. The program includes orientation, safety training, and hands-on instruction in various construction tasks. Upon completion of core training, trainees will gain work experience as skilled laborers and be paid according to wage rates. Efforts will be made to retain trainees as long as work is available.

Valid driver's license and meets NESL's standards.

Responsibilities

Develop all skills required to perform as a member of the laborer crew under the direction of the foreperson.
Work with labor crew and foreperson in the reading of roadway plans and standard drawings.
Perform tasks involving installation of erosion and sediment control measures.
Perform tasks involving the maintenance and protection of traffic.
Perform tasks involving asphalt patching and compacting.
Receive instruction, observe and assist the foreman and laborer crew.
Receive general understanding and use of all hand and power tools.
Review procedures for the maintenance and protection of traffic.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of all hand and power tools.
Demonstrate ability to assist in laying out of plans for smooth operation.
Demonstrate ability to work independently with the laborer work crew.
Demonstrate the ability to assist with the maintenance and protection of traffic.
Demonstrate the ability to assist with material delivery procedures.
Demonstrate the ability to patch and compact asphalt.
Demonstrate an understanding of the labor tasks for road grading.
Receive additional instruction from foreman as deemed necessary.
