D.R. Horton’s summer internship program gives students hands-on experience, professional development, and exposure to career opportunities within the company, affiliated business functions, and the homebuilding and homebuying process. Interns are assigned to a primary department or functional area and may gain experience through departmental rotations, project work, administrative support, research, reporting, training, office and field activities, jobsite observation, systems support, and other learning opportunities based on departmental needs, location, and business priorities. The Construction Intern supports daily operations in the assigned department, division, office, field location, jobsite, or business function. The intern learns departmental responsibilities, industry terminology, business systems, company policies, safety requirements, and standard operating procedures; collaborates with team members and other departments; and participates in training, meetings, rotations, and other learning opportunities. The role is intended to help interns explore career paths that may lead to future full-time employment after graduation. The position may involve overtime and travel, including occasional overnight travel, as business needs require. Work settings vary with the internship assignment and may include office, field, jobsite, corporate, remote, or hybrid environments. Physical requirements also vary by assignment and location.
