About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for their Wichita office. This role involves the inspection of specific operations on transportation construction projects. While the primary office is in Wichita, inspectors typically report to various project locations, and residing in the greater Wichita area is not a requirement.

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
  • Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with DOTs or municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of construction related experience preferred but not required.
  • KDOT Technician Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • Thoroughly document daily progress, compute and track materials and quantities, perform material sampling and testing, and maintain timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents, and report any deviations from contract documents.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and answer inquiries as required.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates, and other project-related meetings.
  • Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
