About The Position

STV is seeking Construction Inspectors to join our Transportation Division in Virginia Beach, VA. Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of construction inspection experience.
  • Hold a valid state driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to traverse rough terrain.
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time while performing manual tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors during all types of weather.
  • Possess the following certifications or have the ability to acquire them (at no cost to the candidate) within 6 months of beginning employment, as schedule permits: VDOT Certifications Soil and Aggregate Compaction - NICET LEVEL II Asphalt Field Level I & II Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field - ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET LEVEL II Pavement Marking Slurry Surfacing Surface Treatment Flagger Certification GRIT (Guardrail Certification) Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection - Virginia DEQ Nuclear Gauge Safety Training - Nuclear Regulatory Commission Recognized Provided Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification (Obtained prior to installation of stormwater items) Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control - VDOT Approved Provider 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training - OSHA

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction inspection activities and assist in the administration of highway, bridge, rail, and tunnel construction projects.
  • Apply safety philosophy to all job responsibilities and ability to work safely in an outside environment
  • Monitor contractor compliance with plans and specifications
  • Establish engineering controls for the construction contractor and inspection of the work
  • Prepare daily inspection reports
  • Perform on-site material testing and sampling
  • Perform measurement and documentation of completed work
  • Read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications
  • Effectively communicate with project staff and clients, both verbal and written communication
  • Basic knowledge of computer and tablet (iPad) operation
