About The Position

Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities, and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree plus six (6) months experience in site construction, public works construction management (for Inspector I-C).
  • Associate's Degree plus two (2) years experience in site construction, public works construction management (for Inspector II-C).
  • Associate's Degree plus four (4) years experience in site construction, public works construction management (for Inspector III-C).
  • ACI Level I (Field Testing Technician) certification or acquire certification within one (1) year of hire date.
  • FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician – Level 1 certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection – Level 1 certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid Florida Drivers License required.
  • Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree; Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree (in lieu of degree).
