About The Position

APSI is seeking a Construction Inspector to join an Owner's agent (CMa) team in support of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) in Leavenworth, Kansas, for the FCI Leavenworth project. This is a Full-Time position for an estimated duration of 1 to 1.5 years, starting in August 2026. The Inspector will be a crucial member of the CMa team, providing proactive management advice to the BOP to ensure the project is conducted safely and adheres to all BOP standards. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the project contract documents, and the goals and requirements of the BOP and end-users, as validated by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Inspector will be responsible for effectively monitoring, assessing, coordinating, and inspecting the contractor's construction work on behalf of the BOP.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction inspection experience inspecting various types of construction scope of work, including concrete.
  • Specialized training and experience providing similar services on projects of comparable complexity.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • 30HR OSHA Safety card (prior to start).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel).
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and ability to create and edit .pdf documents.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to bring assignments to completion independently.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Willingness to learn in a team environment.
  • Proven record of accomplishments as an inspector on a variety of construction projects.
  • US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Construction Management software such as Kahua or Procore.
  • Experience as an inspector on government projects.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent relationships with BOP client representatives, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Provide daily site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Coordinate in the field with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare daily reports.
  • Review and report on contractor schedule progress.
  • Coordinate 3rd-party special material testing inspections.
  • Review and provide input on design documents and potential change order issues.
  • Maintain project records.
  • Manage project photographic records.
  • Verification of field surveys.
  • Report on project issues and provide status updates.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.
